Thomas V. Ashton, 88, of Fort Myers, FL, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2010.?á He was born April 5, 1922 in Greenville, DE and moved to Fort Myers from Woodbury, CT.?á He retired as a Commander in the United States Navy and served in World War II and Korea.?á He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Trinity College in Hartford, CT, attended Officer Candidate School at Columbia University in New York City, attaining the rank of Ensign USNR.?á Following his service in the U.S. Navy, he retired as a Senior Manager for the Southern New England Telephone Company. ?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Jean P. Ashton of Fort Myers and Woodbury, CT; his daughter, Sarah S. Ashton and husband, James A. Metzler of Sanibel, FL and his sister: Margaret Biggs and husband, Charles Biggs of Berkley Springs, WV.?á He was preceded in death by his parents: Rev, Frederick T. and Elizabeth V. Ashton; his daughter, Mary G. Aston-Taylor and two sisters: Elizabeth Bewley and Amelia Clarke. ?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á Mr. Ashton was a devoted husband and father and faithfully served as a lay Eucharistic Minister.?á He served as a volunteer EMT for the Woodbury, CT Ambulance Service until 2000 and then as their treasurer until 2005.?á He also served on the Elder Housing Council of Litchfield County until 2008. ?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 20 at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 2304 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, FL 33957.?á Services and interment will be held in the spring in Connecticut. ?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á?á Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33907, 239-936-0555.?á Online condolences may be made at www.fortmyersmemorial.com.
