Tom was an alumnus of Cornell University and Cornell Law School. He was a Captain in the US Army, serving in the Judge Advocate General Corps (JAG) in Zweibrucken, Germany from 1969 to 1972. Tom’s civilian career began at the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in Washington, DC, where he was licensed to practice before the US Supreme Court. An avid BMW car enthusiast, Tom and his wife Nancy often traveled to Germany to personally collect his cars and do road trips throughout Europe. He enjoyed driving on the racetrack at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut and on the winding roads of the Smoky Mountains, including many times on the Tail of the Dragon, considered one of the most dangerous roads in the US. His passion for speed and his love for his vehicles was evident to all who knew him. He was an active member of several BMW car clubs, and had many close BMW friends. In addition to BMW, he also had a passion for and closely followed Formula One. He attended many races in Montreal and Miami.
Tom had a diverse appetite for knowledge, delving into his family genealogy, learning about history, and keeping up with politics. Together with Nancy, Tom explored the wonders of Israel, China, the Panama Canal, and countless other destinations. He led an active life, enjoying long bike rides of up to 50 miles, playing tennis, kayaking and, most especially, walking his beloved dog Edison.
