Thomas Godfrey Lawrence's Obituary
Thomas Godfrey Lawrence, Jr., 87, passed away Nov. 26, 2016 at his home in Ft. Myers, Florida. He was born to Thomas Godfrey Lawrence and Thelma Conroy Lawrence in Chicago, Illinois, on Oct. 7, 1929.Three years later, his family moved to Ft. Myers, FL, where he graduated from Ft. Myers High School in 1947. He served in the United States Navy as an aerial photographer during the Korean Conflict on the USS Coral Sea. After his honorable discharge, he graduated with honors from the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He worked for Crane Plumbing and Supply Company from 1957- 1968. He worked for Thomas Industries from 1968 to 1973, and then he was the regional manager (New Jersey to Texas) for the Kitchen Division of IXL Furniture until 1975. He started his own consulting business in 1975.He was married to Lucille Marie Lane in 1953; they were later divorced. He married Patricia Pharr in 1960; they were later divorced. He married Marilyn Flynn on June 25, 1988, and she has been his loving wife for the past 28 years.Tom was a proud member of the National Rifle Association, a Certified National Rifle Association Instructor, and a staunch defender of the Constitution and the 2nd Amendment. In his younger years he had a passion for hunting, fishing, sailing, photography, and motorcycles. More recently he took up kayaking. Tom was a Christian and even though Tom has left life as we know it on earth, he openly accepted the transition to his next life under the guidance of Jesus Christ Our Lord and Savior.Surviving are his wife Marilyn Flynn Lawrence, a son Thomas Godfrey Lawrence, III both of Ft. Myers, FL, two daughters Karen Allison Lane of Charlotte, NC, and Gayla Ryan of Woodstock, GA., a brother Charles R. Lawrence, Cape Coral, FL, and a sister Martha Harrison of Orem, UT. He has 3 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.Visitation will be 10:30am until 12noon followed by The United States Navy conducting Military Honors at 12noon, Friday, December 2, 2016 in the chapel of Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, FL 33907. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to The American Heart Association 28441 Bonita Crossings Boulevard, Bonita Springs, FL 34135 or the American Cancer Society, 4575 Via Royale, Fort Myers, FL 33919.
