Thomas Stankowski's Obituary
Thomas Stankowski, age 89, son of the late Mary and Joseph Stankowski of Duryea, PA passed from this world to a better place on October 2, 2019.Tom is survived by his wife of 66 years, Katherine P. (Percival) Stankowski, his sister Elizabeth ‘Bette’ Stroup; daughters Dorothy M. Stankowski (Robert C. Drechsler); Mary K. Whitaker; Patricia A. Powell; Therese D. Taylor (Joe Cotton); sons Thomas R. Stankowski, and Paul F. Stankowski (Regina R. Clay). He is also survived by grandchildren: Sarah (Stankowski) Cambra, Karl Drechsler, Sage (Taylor) Stella, William Taylor, Alannah Powell, Jessica Powell, Zachary Taylor, Rocky Powell, Caleb Whitaker, Chris Whitaker, Hannah (Whitaker) Holley, Joshua Stankowski and Katelyn Stankowski. AND great grandchildren: Jada Powell-Carter, Philip ‘PJ’ Stella, Olivia Harris, Chloe Holley, Elsie Rae Stella and Turner Holley along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.Tom graduated from Duryea High School in 1948 and subsequently enlisted in the United States Air Force. He retired in 1968 with 20 years honorable, active duty service. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal and twice awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for exceptional service.A man of strong faith, Tom left a legacy of a loving family full of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He touched the lives of many with his big personality and zeal for life. He loved fishing, golf , gardening, wood working and spent hours on the beach clam digging with his kids. While he had a quiet side, many knew him for his joyful heart and light hearted humor and his ability to make you laugh. And for those who were the recipients of his generosity and helpful hand, please, know that it always, truly came from his heart.A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Friday, October 11, 2019 at St. John XXIII, 13060 Palomino Lane, Fort Myers, FL 33912. Immediately following Mass, military honors will be rendered by the United States Air Force. Interment will follow on the grounds of St John XXIII. Reception at end of services will be from 1:00 – 4:00 PM at Brookshire Bath and Tennis Clubhouse, 6670 Southwell Dr. Fort Myers, Fl 33966. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to St. John XXIII Catholic Church Memorial Gardens.
