Verna Lee Latham's Obituary
Verna Lee Latham of Fort Denaud, Florida, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 11, 2016 in her home. She was 86. Verna Lee was born April 28, 1930 in Morgantown, West Virginia as the beautiful daughter of the late James E. and Viola Smith. She moved to southwest Florida in 1958 and worked 30+ years as a medical assistant with the late Dr. James O’Bryan. In addition to her commitment to Dr. O’Bryan, she also worked 8+ years as a medical assistant with Lee Memorial Hospital. She was a devoted member of the First Christian Church of Labelle. Verna Lee lived a long and happy life with her husband, George Schwab, whom she lost on September 4, 2016 and now has joined him and Jesus in Heaven. In addition to her parents and her soul-mate, George, she is also preceded in death by her first husband, John Latham (1979). Verna Lee is survived by her two daughters, Jo Dyess (the late Earl “Gator” Dyess, Jr.) of Labelle, Florida and Mary Jean Williams (Randy) of Cape Coral, Florida. She was the loving grandmother to six grandchildren, James Earl Dyess, III (Jed) of Alabama, John Matthew Dyess (Anna) of Labelle, Florida, Justin Lee Dyess (Megan) of Alabama, Charlene Blum (Steven) of Labelle, Florida, Charlie Doss (Natalie) of Fort Myers, Florida and Amber Ballantine (Brad) of Fort Myers, Florida. She is also survived by her eight great grandchildren, James Lee Dyess, Marlee Dyess, Tyler Blum, Stephanie Blum, Owen Ballantine, Emma Grace Dyess, Trinity Ballantine and Aubrey Ballantine. Funeral services for Verna Lee will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 17, 2016 in her church, First Christian Church of Labelle, 138 Ford Avenue, Labelle, Florida 33935. She will be laid to rest in the Good Shepherd Mausoleum of Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907.
