Vernon Lee Plummer's Obituary
Vernon Lee Plummer, Age 85 was reunited with his daughter, Karen at the gates of Heaven on December 3rd, 2015. Vernon was born January 9, 1930 in Duquesne, Pennsylvania. He moved to Ohio and graduated from Middletown High school in 1948. He spent 3 years in the United States Navy. In 1951 Vernon was employed by the Middletown Fire Department until he was called back to serve in the Korean War. Upon his return, he was reinstated with the Middletown Fire Department where he worked for 32 years until his retirement in 1983. He was a Master Mason of Queen City Lodge #559 in Cincinnati, Ohio, a member of the American Legion and VFW. He moved to Florida with his wife in 1983. In Florida he became a dual member of the Cape Coral Masonic Lodge #367, Eastern Star Loyalty Chapter #309, and a lifetime member of the Scottish Rite. Vernon enjoyed his family and the many adventures that come with being a husband and father. Teaching safety skills was his number one concern. As a family, we would have monthly fire drills where we would all gather at the mailbox. Of course, we all knew the proper handling of a fire extinguisher! He taught all three of his children how to swim, boat, and drive with the utmost care. ‘Til this day, when entering a public pool, we still walk around the perimeter of the pool making note of the water depth and exits. In addition, we were all required to take the Coast Guard Auxiliary boating course before navigating our family boat. Vernon enjoyed boating in the local waters. He visited Cabbage Key and walked the beaches at Cayo Costa, Fort Myers, and Sanibel. We took multiple family vacations in our pop-up camper exploring many national landmarks to broaden our knowledge of the USA. He took pride in the American Flag and passed that pride down to his children. Vernon had quite a sense of humor. His stories and one-liners were a hit at every party. Every toast was ended with the words “Rocky Mountain.” You can ask anyone who knew Vernon, aka “Plum”, and they will chuckle at the phrase Rocky Mountain. Those words will live on in the hearts of those that knew and loved him. Vernon is preceded in death by his loving daughter, Karen. He leaves to cherish his loving memory his wonderful and devoted wife Jeanie whom he fell in love with and married 58 years ago. His son, Kenneth Plummer; daughter, Kathy (Rick) Eva; Son-InLaw, Mike Magdos; and grandson James Michael Eva. At Vernon’s request, a private service will be held at the Fort Myers Memorial Gardens.
