Wallace Harley Peet's Obituary
Wallace Harley Peet of North Fort Myers, Florida, more commonly known simply as "Wally" to his family and friends, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 26, 2021 following some chronic health challenges during the past several years. He was 80 years old.
Wally was born in Owosso, Michigan on October 27, 1940, the proud son to Berneece (McDonagh) and Douglas Peet. He graduated from Chesaning High School in Michigan in 1959 and attended Ferris State College before joining the Peet Meat Packing Company, which was operated for five generations of his family for over 105 years. Wally was an intergral part of the operations at "Farmer Peet," spending his entire career at the firm before retiring as Vice President.
Wally was not only diligent in matters of business, he also made it a priority to be active in the betterment of his community. Throughout the years he participated in service orginazations such as the Kiwanis Club where he was a Charter Member, the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Little League Baseball where he enjoyed being a coach, his membership as a Mason first at Chesaning Lodge 194 and then Owosso Lodge 81 or through his active membership as a Shriner of Araba Temple in Fort Myers, Florida and Elf Khurafeh in Saginaw, Michigan. Wally was also a man of faith and a long-standing member of Trinity Methodist Church in Chesaning. He truly appreciated God's gift of nature and would often use his leisure time playing tennis, fishing or boating. He was even a licensed Captain for vessels up to 100 tons.
Wally is survived by his devoted wife Barbara (Schendel); son Craig; granddaughter Brennah; great grandson Brantley; brother Roger (Judy); many nieces, nephews, and cousins and a large number of extended family members. Sadly, he is preceded in death by his son Brian, brother David and his parents.
A Memorial Service and Masonic Ritual for Wally will be celebrated at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 inside the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. At the conclusion of these ceremonies, family and friends will recess to adjacent Memorial Gardens Cemetery where Wally will be laid to rest inside the Cremation Garden located in the Sylvan Terrace Section.
A Celebration of Life for Wally will take place at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 12, 2021 at the Chesaning Trinity Methodist Church, 1629 W. Brady Road, Chesaning, Michigan 48616, (989) 845-3157.
In lieu of flowers, the family recommends a donation in memory of Wally be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive Tampa, Florida 33607, (855) 401-4897.
