Wallace W. Snyder's Obituary
Wallace W. Snyder, 86, of Punta Gorda, FL, passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at HCA Florida Fawcett Hospital. Formerly of La Plata, MD, Wallace had made Punta Gorda his home since 2011. Born on February 26, 1939, in Martinsburg, WV, he was the son of the late Leonard H. and Ethel E. (Foltz) Snyder.
Wallace dedicated his early career to public service as a firefighter, where he not only helped protect his community but also discovered his love for cooking — a skill he would continue to hone and enjoy throughout his life.
Following his time as a firefighter, he pursued a career as a metal worker, where he took great pride in his craft. Among his most notable accomplishments was his work on the copper roof atop the United States Capitol Building — a legacy of craftsmanship that will stand for generations.
A man of many talents and quiet passions, Wallace was an avid gardener who found joy and peace in tending to his plants. He was a generous man, always happiest when surrounded by those he loved.
He is survived by his son Don Snyder, his daughter Lisa Snyder, and his stepchildren Streak Elder, Vickie Dailey, Erb Elder, Lisa Keys, Melanie Reagan, Stacie Catliff, Paula Horn, and April Burke. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Celebration of Life events will be held privately by the family.
