Walter "T-Bird" Howerton's Obituary
Retired USN Petty Officer Walter( aka “Jack”, aka “T-Bird”) Ranson Howerton, passed away on Friday November 20, 2015 at his home in Cape Coral, FL at the age of 88. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Fort Myers Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 23, 2015 from 4:00 PM -7:00 PM at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens. Funeral Services and Interment will be held at Carolina Memorial Gardens in North Charleston, SC at a later date.He was born on March 28, 1927 in Paintsville, KY to George R and Eula C. (Arnold) Howerton. He and Novella Joyce (Thompson) Howerton were married on June 23, 1948 in Lexington, KY. He is survived by a son, Jack T. and wife Kay (Stevenson) Howerton of North Ft Myers, FL.; Granddaughters Kimberly A. Howerton; Melissa K. (Will) Dixon; and Shannon M. (CJ) Cancro. Great-Grandchildren are Dalton Anderson, Taylor Anderson, Brianna (Justine) Youmans, Rhett Crocker, CJ Cancro Jr, and Samantha Cancro: Great Great Grandson Michael James Anderson. Also surviving is a brother Francis Ray Howerton of Cape Coral, FL. He was predeceased by his brothers, George R, Jr, Russell L., Gene T. and Glen C. Howerton and a sister, Bessie L. (Howerton) Robertson.He was a decorated WWII veteran, retiring from the US Navy in 1966, after serving for 22 years. He also worked at Charleston, AFB, SC for over 20 years, retiring in1987 as President of Local 1869 AFGE-AFL-CIO.He is a member of Omar Shriners; Araba Shriners; O.E.S #277 & 309; Mariner Lodge #2, AFM; Scottish Rite Amaranth Ct #7.
