Walter C Thomas' Obituary
The family of Walter C. Thomas (Pop) announces his passing on Thursday, March 12, 2009, at the age of 90. Walter was born in Tampa, Florida, on February 15, 1919 to Walter W. and Nina Anderson Thomas. He was a Marine Corp Gunnery Sergeant who saw action in the Pacific theatre during WWII. Moving to Fort Myers Beach in 1951, Walter was a long time resident of this area. His life was full of family, of fishing in the back bay at the Beach, dogs & bird hunting, writing and painting. He enjoyed many years at Fort Myers Beach as the owner of Beach Hardware and a founder of the FMB Volunteer Fire Department. In 1996 he retired from a successful business built with his son, Buck.Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy W. Thomas. He will be remembered by his two sons and two daughters, Walter W. Thomas (Buck), Billy Thomas, Diane Kirby and Tina Pineo; 1 brother and 2 sisters, Rev. Davis Thomas, Francis Toole, and Tina Paxton; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.A service for Walter will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens, on Colonial Blvd. Visitation from 11am to 1pm with service at 1pm. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Hospice.
