Walter R Wentzel's Obituary
Mr. Walter R. Wentzel, 90, of Fort Myers, FL was called home to be with our Lord on January 30, 2009, where he was reunited with his loving wife, Cora Jean of 58 years. He was born August 10, 1918 in Youngstown, OH the son of Stanley and Mary Wentzel. Walter was a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Army stationed in the Philippines. On December 13, 1947 he married Cora Jean Roberts in Youngstown, OH. They moved to Fort Myers in 1948. He was a self employed residential carpenter. Walter loved salt water fishing and spent most of his weekends with family and friends at their fish camp around Two Pine in Matlacha Pass. For 50 years, Walter and Cora Jean spent their summer months at their family mountain home in Cullowhee, NC.Walter built every house he and Cora Jean lived in. He always had a project going, as soon as one would finish he’d already have a new one lined up. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his greatest joy. His home was always the gathering place for the many family celebrations on holidays and weekends.Walter is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his daughter, Susan (Everett) Jordan; his son, Chuck (Judy) Wentzel; five grandchildren, Cathy (Rick) Yelvington, David (Windie) Jordan; Brenda (Todd) Shepard; Laura (Josh) Berger and Chip Wentzel; ten great-grandchildren, Lane, Hunter, McKenzie, Ty, Cole, Tracy, Nicholas, Jacob, Elizabeth and Lorelei and many other extended family and friends.Friends will be received on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, 6-8 P.M. and Thursday, February 5, 2009, 1-2 P.M. with a chapel service at 2 P.M.
