Walter L. Williams, 74, of Cape Coral, passed away September 13, 2012.?áHe was born February 15, 1938 in Peru, New York to the late John R. and Florence (Clark) Williams.?áIn addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers John and Wayne and sister, Vivian. Walter came to Lee County in 2000 from New Harford, New York.?áHe was a member of the Cape Coral First United Methodist Church, was Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge in 1978 and 1979 in Plattsburg, New York, the Kairous Prison Ministry, served in the US Army for two years earning several awards, retired from Municipal Lighting in Plattsburg, New York.?áWhen he was a small boy, he attended a one room school house.?áWalter loved to fish, play practical jokes, work hard, make soup, cook, was a Golden Glove Boxer, enjoyed bowling and once bowled a 300 game. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 24 years, Coletta; his former wife, Phyllis Bettinger; children, Lucille Soule (Richard), ?áLaurie Williams (Melanie DeFayette), Kirk Hatle`, Wayne Williams (Sandy) and James Williams (Scott Sayward); step-children, Kathleen S. DiRito, Barbara Ann DiRito, Barbara Ann DiRito, Carole Martin (Jerry), Deborah DiRito, Stacey Richards (Scott); grandchildren, Adam, Justin, Erin, Evan, Kirk, Kale and Michael; step-grandchildren, Ashley, Zachary, Devon and Grace Anna; 3 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; brother, Paul Williams (Sue), sister, Carole Maxwell (William), Janice Baker (Joe) and Margaret MacQuarrie (Jim). There will be a visitation on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, Florida 33907.?áMemorial service will be on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 11:00 at Cape Coral First United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Cape Coral First United Methodist Church, 4118 Coronado Parkway, Cape Coral, Florida 33904 or to the Elks National Foundation, 2750 N. Lakeview Avenue, Chicago, IL 60614-2256.
