Wayne K. Hood Jr.'s Obituary
Wayne Kay Hood Jr., beloved father, husband, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away on February 11, 2023 at the age of 87.
Wayne was a loving and spiritual man of God, generous of heart and kind to all. He was born February 23, 1935 in Pensacola, FL to Wayne K. Hood Sr. and Virginia Marie Martin. Wayne married Betty Jo Becton (deceased 2018) on June 22, 1954 at Moss Point, MS. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1953 during the Korean War and served from 1966 through 1967 as Communications Chief (cryptologist) and Chief Master at Arms aboard the USS Jamestown (AGTR-3) during the Vietnam War. Wayne traveled extensively abroad and within the U.S. during 20 years of distinguished service retiring as Senior Chief Petty Officer. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he earned a Management Degree from Jones College, Orlando, FL and pursued careers as an analyst with Florida SunTrust Bank and with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.
Those left to cherish his memory include three sons, Wayne K. Hood III (Jean), Marc W. Hood, and Lance K. Hood (Sue); two grandsons Chris B. Hood and Daniel T. Hood (Charis); two granddaughters Lana R. Hood and Kelsey A. Hood; and several precious great grandchildren.
Wayne will be laid to rest next to Betty with a military graveside service and celebration of life in the Meditation Garden section on the grounds of Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida on Saturday February 18th, 2023 at 10:00AM.
