Wesley Earl Drexler's Obituary
Wesley Earl Drexler was born October 19, 1927 in Buffalo NY to Harry August and Mabel Jesse Drexler. He married Marilyn Carol Pease on September 15, 1956 and they had a loving, happy marriage for 59 years. The Drexlers (Harry and Mabel), the Peases (Merle and Carol) and Wesley and Marilyn all moved to Lee County in 1958.
Wesley and Marilyn had two daughters, Nancy Drexler Hensley (Craig Hensley) and Lauren Drexler Taylor (William Taylor), and three grandchildren, Carl Drexler Hensley, August Beckett Taylor, Olivia Grace Taylor and Everett Baumann Taylor. Wesley and Marilyn enjoyed taking care of all the grandchildren for their first year of life.
Wesley was employed briefly for Lehigh Corporation upon moving to Florida, but then worked for the US Postal Service at the Tice station as a letter carrier for the rest of his working years. His customers on his route loved him and he would come home with many gifts at Christmas, some quite delicious.
Wesley and Marilyn were longtime active members of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church and then Messiah Lutheran Church and had a very strong faith in His promise for us. They volunteered in many aspects of Church life, such as being Sunday School teachers, greeters, communion assistants and participating in many Church activities, Bible classes and the Diorama every Christmas season. They enjoyed and cherished the many close friendships they developed in the Church.
Wesley and Marilyn also had many other friends in the area and enjoyed spending time with them and their families. There were many get togethers to have dinner, play cards, just enjoy each other’s company and even some traveling together when the girls were young.
After Wesley and Marilyn retired, they had the good fortune to be able to travel and took several cruises, trips to Europe, Canada, Hawaii, Texas and California not to mention back to Buffalo several times to visit friends. Their friends from Buffalo visited frequently in Florida as well. One of their favorite places to visit was New Orleans. They loved the people, vibrant atmosphere of the City, art, architecture, food and especially the music.
Wesley enjoyed model trains, reading, playing cards and other board games, camping, the beach, traveling, movies and TV shows especially Gunsmoke and all things British, the sillier the better. There was a lot of laughter in the Drexler house. Through the years, the family also had several rescue dogs who were very spoiled and much loved, especially the first dog, Mitzie, whose favorite person in the universe was Wesley. We hope she is sitting on his lap in Heaven now.
Services for Wesley will be at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens on Saturday, September 3, with visitation at 1 pm and services at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hope Hospice.
