Wiliam Withers' Obituary
William (Bill) Withers Sr., 87, passed away on April 22, 2015 in Fort Myers, FL. He was born in Lancaster, PA on May 18, 1927. Bill met his wife, Joy (Sorensen) Withers at church and they were married on May 12, 1947; she preceded him in death after 65 years of marriage in 2012. He retired after 25 years as Maintenance Supervisor at Devereux School in PA. He was a veteran of the Merchant Marines in the Coast Guard in 1947 and served his country proudly. After retiring to Fort Myers, FL in 1987, Bill volunteered for 20 yrs. at Lee Memorial Hospital and stayed active at his church, First Church of the Nazarene. Bill leaves behind his daughter Linda & son-in-law Dennis Hunt in Ft. Myers; son, Bill Withers, Jr. in New Jersey; grandchildren, Susan Hunt and Bryan Hunt in Ft. Myers; great grand dog, Ellie May & great grand cat, “MJ”; a sister-in-law, Pearl Sorensen in Honey Brook, PA; niece, Karen & Philip Gicola in PA and great niece & nephew, Erica & Kevin; nephew, Danny & wife Mikki Withers in York, PA and nephew Eric Withers & Elizabeth Vaitl in Ephrata, PA. He also is “Grandpa Bill” to many great nieces & nephews in Ft. Myers, FL. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Ft. Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Ft. Myers, FL, 33907. The family will be present on Wednesday at 10:00 am for visitation until the time of service. Interment will be at Sarasota National Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Hope Hospice in Ft. Myers, FL.
