William "Bud" Joyce's Obituary
William B. (Bud) Joyce, of Fort Myers, FL passed away on January 19, 2013 after a long illness. He showed great courage during this time and was always positive and kept his good humor. He was born in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn, NY. Resided in Deer Park, Long Island for many years and moved to Florida in 1992. He and his beloved companion of many years Carol Vandenburg owned homes in Fort Myers, Sanibel Island, Fort Myers Beach and the Pocono Mountains. They were members of the Royal Palm Yacht Club which they fully enjoyed. Mr. Joyce attended Brooklyn College and was a graduate of St. John?ÇÖs University with a Bachelor of Science Degree and a degree in Business Administration. Bud and others established two continuing Scholarship Programs for needy students entering St. John?ÇÖs. In Order to augment his income during his college years Bud started a business called the Town and Shore Club Inc. The club ran Sunday afternoon dances at noted NY hotel ballrooms and organized ski trips. At it?ÇÖs peak the club had a membership of about 2,500. He served in the US Navy with distinction serving on the aircraft carrier Franklin D. Roosevelt CVA42, the Pomona Naval Air Station and the Jacksonville Naval Air Station. Bud worked 30 years for a Fortune 500 company, The Dun & Bradstreet Corporation, in Sales and marketing, and was awarded numerous awards. Bud was the company?ÇÖs 1984 Man of the Year. He was there at the inception of a new division at Dun & Bradstreet around 1960 and when he left that division, it was a thriving multi million dollar business. He was also a member of the Sales and Marketing Executive Club of NY. Bud was the son of William and Kate Joyce, both deceased. The elder Mr. Joyce flew for the Royal Air Force (RFC) during WWI and provided Bud with a love of flying. Bud is survived by his loving companion of 16 years Carol Vandenburg; sister, Mary McLane; sons, Christopher (Christine) of Trumbull CT, Michael (Sherri) of Cape Coral, FL and Gary (Alison) Joyce of Olyphant, PA. Bud had 8 grandchildren, Connor, Colleen, Clare Joyce; Ryan and Amanda Joyce; Gavin, Colin and Brady Joyce. He was a great father and grandfather and he will be missed. Visitation will be held Monday, January 21, 2013 from 4-7pm; Funeral service will be Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 10am. Both located at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations will be directed to Hope Hospice HealthCare Services, 9470 Health Park Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908
