William Ernest Lyford's Obituary
William “Bill” E. Lyford, 90, passed away in his home April 24, 2014. He was born October 1, 1923 in Atkinson, Maine to the late Edwin B. and Grace A. Lyford. He was raised in Atkinson and Dover-Foxcroft, Maine. In 1946 he married his wife, Betty who preceded him in death in 1992.Left to cherish his memory are his son, Paul and his wife Nicki of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Sally Corbin and her husband Roland of Farmington, Maine; six grandchildren, Amy Pelletier and her husband Chris, Paul Fowles and his wife Nicole, Rusty Fowles, Robert Lyford and his wife Kaci, Jessica Pare and her husband Michael and Andrew Coffin; ten great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter and numerous relatives throughout the US.Bill proudly served his country in the US Air Force during WWII in England, France and Germany. He lived and worked as a grocer in Dover-Foxcroft, operating his own supermarket for several years. In 1970 he and Betty moved to Fort Myers where he worked at Publix Supermarkets before retiring in 1990.Bill was active in the Masonic Lodge and Anah Shrine in Maine. He had a life-long love of music and was a talented singer and trumpeter, performing with numerous church choirs and bands. Bill was raised in the Methodist Church and active in Congregational (UCC) and Presbyterian Churches, including Covenant Presbyterian and Pilgrim’s Church in Fort Myers.There will be a memorial service on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will follow in the Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the American Lung Association.
