Pastor William Clarence Sands, Jr.'s Obituary
Pastor William Clarence Sands, Jr., 88, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2018 of Fort Myers, Florida. He passed away at the Lehigh Hospice in Lehigh Acres, Florida. He was born in Akron, Ohio, March 10, 1929 to the late William Clarence Sands, Sr. and his wife, the late May Reaves Sands. He graduated from Talmadge High School, attended Akron Bible Institute and served in the United States Army where he saw action in the Korean Conflict. Following his military service, Pastor Sands worked with his father’s residential construction business, during which time they were responsible for the construction of First Baptist Church of Green Township, Greentown, Ohio. After associating with Holland O’Dell Company, he was ordained in the ministry. In the early 1970’s, Pastor Sands moved his family to Fort Myers, Florida where he served as pastor of Faith Baptist Church, Fort Myers Beach until his retirement. Under Pastor Sands’ leadership, Faith Baptist actively supported the development and construction of many start-up churches, and even into retirement, Pastor Sands supported the work of Norris and Linda Bailey of Vietnam Ministries in their efforts to develop churches in Vietnam.Pastor Sands is survived by his daughter, Pamela Horbach; grandson, William Horbach; granddaughter, Sarah Horbach Tosch (Andrew); great granddaughter, Janie Tosch; son David Allen Sands; sisters: Jane Sands Trost and Martie Sands Schaefer, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Wilson Sands and brother, A. E. (Bud) Sands.Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 27, 2018 in the chapel of Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with burial to follow in Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military rites conducted by the United States Army.
