William F Werckman Jr.'s Obituary
William F. Werckman Jr. of Fort Myers, Florida passed away peacefully on Friday, June 10, 2022 following some very recent health setbacks. He was 100 years old.
William was born in Chadron, Nebraska, the proud son to Alice I. (Bonfoey) and William F. Werckman Sr. He was a Member of the United States Army Air Force and later the Army Infantry where he saw action during the Invasion of Normandy, Operation Market Garden and During the Battle of the Bulge. He was decorated with the Bronze Star for meritorious service and acts of valor while serving in combat operations. After his military service and return to the United States, William worked in the field of construction and learned the many skills needed by a general contractor, thereafter advancing his position to Construction Engineer. He was the loving husband to Donna M. (Burke) Werckman who sadly preceded him in death back in 2016. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughters Awanda J, Beaupre and Nancy A. Middleton (Don) and his son David E. Werckman (Lorie); granddaughter Lorna Hashemeyer (Conrad); four great grandchildren, brother Jack Werckman and sisters Nancy Warton and LeAnn Ross and many nieces and nephews. William also leaves a sizeable group of extended family members and many friends who are saddened by the loss of his company. He will be warmly remembered fondly missed by all he knew.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of William's Life will be officiated by Pastor Al Barbosa at 12:00 Noon on Friday, June 17, 2022 inside the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. Guests will be received for Visitation for an hour prior to this ceremony beginning at 11:00 AM also inside the Funeral Home Chapel. At the conclusion of these services, guests will recess to adjacent Memorial Gardens Cemetery where William will will be laid to rest alongside his dearly departed wife Donna at the Mausoleum located inside the Garden of Serenity. An Honor Guard will be provided by the United States Army and will offer full Funeral Military Honors in conjunction with William's committal in the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family instead suggests a contribution in memory of William be made to: Lest Never Forget Our Heroes, 3690 Russell Road, Woodbridge, VA 22192.
