Haskel Diehl Sluss

Haskel Diehl Sluss, 89, a 32 year resident of Fort Myers, FL, formerly of Maryville, TN passed away peacefully to join his Lord and Saviour on Sunday, August 1, 2021 under the care of Hope Hospice at The Preserve Senior Living. He was born July 4, 1932 in Bluefield, WV to the late Goff and Eloise Sluss. Diehl attended McCallie Military High School in Chattanooga, TN. He was always grateful to his Parents for sacrificing for him so he could get a better education, and received a Scholarship to Davidson College in Charlotte, NC, where he graduated with Honors and received a B.S. in Management. After that, he was a proud United States Navy Veteran during the Korean War Conflict. He was one of ten selected to do intelligence work at the Pentagon and the recipient of two awards. Diehl worked in Retail Management in East TN for J.C. Penney and then Proffitt’s Department Store for over 30 years. He then worked in Real Estate and Financial Planning. He was also a Private Pilot and enjoyed playing Tennis and Golf. He was always generous in giving to his Schools and Churches. He was preceded in death by his Sister, Phyllis Anderson. Diehl is survived by his loving Wife of 66 years, Josephine Sluss of Fort Myers, FL, formerly of Gilbert, WV; one Daughter, Major Jodi Tekell, Retired, U.S. Army and Lieutenant Colonel Scott, Retired, U.S. Army of Azle, TX; Cousins Joan Murry of Bristol, VA and Sally Burns of Kingsport, TN, as well as extended Family members and friends. A Memorial Service will be celebrated 11:00 A.M., Friday, August 20, 2021 at Faith United Methodist Church, 15690 McGregor Boulevard, Fort Myers, FL 33908. Internment will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in the Patio of Peace. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Faith United Methodist Church, 15690 McGregor Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33908 or to Hope Hospice, 9470 Healthpark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908.
