Sylvia Jean Pickens, 87, of Lehigh Acres, FL, passed away Monday, March 14, 2022, following an extended illness. She was born November 13, 1934, in Portsmouth, OH, to John and Marie (Smith) Williams. Jean Pickens worked as executive secretary for the President of Hernando Community College, as well as serving in numerous churches, including Assembly of God churches in Brooksville and Deland. She and her husband planted several churches where her love for music was expressed through leading choirs, serving as pianist, and traveling with her family throughout Florida, Georgia, and Texas. They pastored First Assembly of God in Westminster, MD before retiring to Florida in 1997. Jean Pickens is survived by her children: Jeffry Pickens (Cheryl) of Estero, Richard Pickens (Anne) of Virginia Beach, VA, Lisa Hallal (Louis) of Brooksville, FL, Beth Waddell (Dean) of Apison, TN and Melissa Smith (Jeff) of Lehigh Acres, FL; her grandchildren: Nathan, Natalie, Joshua, Jonathon, Jenee, Jeremiah, Kiarra, Lauren and Benjamin; her great grandchildren: Raegan, Isaiah, Samuel, Mabry, Parker, Emmaline, Linnie, Caleb, Jaydon, Masie, Leelan, Drew, Malaki, Haylie and Logan and her siblings: Mary Delbridge and Lavurn McCall along with many extended family. Immediate funeral ceremonies are private. Arrangements for Sylvia's final care have been entrusted to Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard.
