Alexander Stephen Lambros Jr's Obituary
Alexander Stephen Lambros Jr., age 77, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on November 9, 2024. Born on April 4, 1947, to Alexander and Elizabeth (Noto) Lambros in St. Louis, Missouri, Alex was a man of sharp wit, boundless intellect, and deep devotion to family and friends. He was a loving father to his four children, Kristen, Alexa, Gregory, and Nicholas, and a loving spouse to his wife, Jacqueline.
Growing up in St. Louis, Alex attended parochial schools, spent time in the seminary, and graduated from St. John Vianney High School before pursuing his passion for aviation at St. Louis University Parks College of Engineering. There, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering, igniting a lifelong love of flight and exploration that would remain a defining hallmark of his life.
Although he had an occupational deferment from the draft for the Vietnam War, Alex, in his typical resolute fashion, followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1969. As a Marine, he was stationed at various Marine Aircraft Wing bases in Southeast Asia, most notably at the Direct Air Support Center (DASC) in Iwakuni, Japan. He later served as an instructor, teaching Aviation Physics and Hyperbolic Navigation to Naval and Marine officers at the Naval Air Technical Training Center in Memphis, Tennessee.
After being honorably discharged as a Captain, Alex continued his career by moving into the finance industry as a stockbroker in 1972. He worked with several brokerage firms before opening Lee County’s first E.F. Hutton branch. It was at E.F. Hutton that he met his wife, Jackie, and from 1987 onward, the two were inseparable both in life and work. Over his 49-year career in the securities business, Alex became known as a trusted advisor and mentor to many.
Alex was a man of principle and insight, with an insatiable thirst for knowledge and a clear sense of what he liked. He was a proud Marine, aircraft enthusiast, history buff, comic, and Latin connoisseur. He had a unique talent for blending intellectual pursuits with hands-on projects. He could often be found working on his latest engineering idea, riding his John Deere tractor, visiting Home Depot, wielding his chainsaw, giving his children unsolicited financial advice, or spending time with his beloved dog, Wolfie. And, like any true Floridian, he appreciated a good grouper sandwich and a slice of key lime pie.
One of Alex’s crowning adventures was his journey to Russia in 1994 to fly a MIG-29 at the Zhukovsky Airbase outside Moscow, fulfilling a lifelong dream to pilot a fighter jet. His love for adventure extended well beyond the skies, as he enjoyed exploring the world with his wife and children. Among his favorite destinations were Kaanapali Beach in Maui, Eaton's Ranch in Wyoming, and locations in Europe, Greece, Turkey, and Egypt.
Deeply committed to his community, Alex served on the boards of the Fort Myers Kiwanis Club, the Cape Coral Rotary Foundation, the Cape Coral Community Foundation, the American Lung Association of Southwest Florida, and the Town & River Civic Association. With a strong belief in education, he established the August and Elizabeth Beran Family Scholarship Fund, the Steve and Rose Wilhelm Family Scholarship Fund, and the Lambros Family Scholarship Fund at Florida Gulf Coast University, creating lasting opportunities for future generations to pursue their passions and careers.
Alex will be remembered by his family and friends as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He leaves behind his wife, Jacqueline; his daughters Kristen and Alexa; his sons Gregory (Leah) and Nicholas (Riley); his grandson Dylan; his stepmother, Joel Lambros; his sister, Liz Mansell (Jim); and two nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alexander Sr. and Elizabeth, and his sister, Paulette Hinsdale. Alex leaves an extraordinary legacy of wisdom, wit, and laughter that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass at the Church of the Resurrection in Fort Myers on Friday, December 6, at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Experimental Aircraft Association at EAA Chapter 66, PO Box 60204, Fort Myers, FL 33906, for their ongoing Hangar Project.
