David W. McTighe's Obituary
In Honor of David W. McTighe October 31, 1944 – July 25, 2015Dave was single and never married and resided in Cape Coral, Florida and Arley, Alabama. He is survived by his brother Skip and wife Anita of Punta Gorda, Florida, sister Margo Blackwell of Bloomington, Indiana, and nephews Scott, Chris and Patrick McTighe.Dave had a lifelong love of aviation and entered the Navy Pilot Program after graduation from Ohio University, Athens, Ohio in 1962. He received his wings and was commissioned an Ensign in the Navy. He flew the C-130 aircraft out of Patuxet NAS, Patuxet, Maryland and was honorable discharged from the Navy in 1966 as a Lieutenant. He became a pilot for Eastern Airlines and also flew for Ransom Airlines and was a Bush Pilot in Alaska for 1 year. He flew the 747 Aircraft as a Captain for Singapore Airlines, Air Hong Kong/Cathay Pacific and logged over 30,000 hours of flying time in his career. When he retired he was Air Hong Kongs’ number one senior pilot.As a pilot, Dave traveled throughout the world touching down on all of the continents and visited countless historical and wondrous places. He was also an excellent sailor and was first mate on a C&C 30′ sail boat that won the New England sailing championship in Marblehead, Massachusetts.Dave had a love for astronomy, celestial navigation and had an infatuation with UFO’S and Big Foot as a Paranormal Investigator’. Dave also had a deep love for his friend and companion Celtie who recently passed away. Dave had a positive influence on many people and touched many lives with his “Never Quit” attitude. Dave often said “You only live once, and if you do it right, then once is enough”. Dave did it right with class and style! God Bless. RIP Captain Dave.Funeral Services will be 2pm Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, FL 33907. Military Honors will follow before David is laid to rest in his mausoleum in Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorials in his honor may be made to Wounded Warrior Project P.O.
