David Swor's Obituary
David Swor, 89, passed away peacefully on 11 June 2022 with his loving wife and family ever by his side as he made his journey to heaven.
From the time he arrived in Fort Myers in 1971, David has been a pillar of strength in the community for over fifty years. He has contributed to and enriched the lives of people in our area in many ways.
Mr. Swor grew up in a small town in Kentucky, graduated from the University of Kentucky, and spent four years in the United States Air Force achieving the rank of captain and serving as a jet pilot. For twelve years he worked in sales and sales management in the Midwest for Texaco Incorporated before coming to Fort Myers in 1971.
In 1975, Mr. Swor assisted in organizing Boys Baseball of Lee County and managed the Mets-Colts League baseball team for boys ages 15-16 through 1981.
He was a former Board of Directors member and Vice President of the American Red Cross of Lee County and Committee Chairman and Board of Directors member of the Palm City Kiwanis Club.
After leaving sales and becoming a realtor, Mr. Swor served as President of the Economic Development Coalition, was an active member and officer since its inception and also was a Board of Directors member of the Business Development Committee.
Eventually becoming a realtor-developer, he was very instrumental in the real estate growth of Lee County. His firm specialized in commercial real estate building shopping centers, various office buildings including Executive Park, and many residential communities such as Camelot on Daniels Road and several others on Briarcliff Road. As general partner, Mr. Swor was responsible for developing the first gated golf course development in Fort Myers. In the late 1970’s he began envisioning The Forest Country Club, a 621-acre development with two championship eighteen-hole golf courses.
He and his wife Doris married in 1976 and joined forces in constructing various developments including Bear Creek at Linville in North Carolina. As proud residents of The Forest for multiple years, they have had a very special interest in seeing and participating in its continued success.
David and Doris are members of First Baptist Church in Newland, North Carolina. David’s Christian faith was an essential part of his life and one which he demonstrated and shared with others by example.
Mr. Swor is survived by his wife of 46 years, Doris Swor; his children G. Michael Swor (Gray), Lisa R. Swor, Brenda Haenel, and LeeAnne Swor; grandchildren Alanna Swor, Jacody Swor (Alexandra), Isaiah Swor, Elijah Swor, Jade Swor, Noah Swor, Lauren Snapp Parsons, David Michael Snapp, Brandon Lee Haenel, Kristine Noonan, Troy Christian Swor, and Ryker Swor; and eleven great-grandchildren.
