David Woods' Obituary
David Woods, 42, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous 20-month battle with colorectal cancer. He faced his illness and passing as he faced every challenge in life, with unmatched grace, dignity, and a selfless devotion to those he loved most.
Born during a whiteout snowstorm on January 18, 1984, in Huntington, West Virginia, to James and Kimberly Woods, David grew up in a large, close-knit family among the West Virginia hills. From his studies at Spring Valley High School to his time at Marshall University, and from pursuing his dream of flying since age 14 to becoming a skilled airline pilot, David excelled in everything he touched. Yet his greatest joy was always found on the ground with his family.
David was a devoted son, a loving older brother to Chris, a cherished grandson, nephew, cousin, and faithful Christian. Most importantly, he was a deeply loving husband to his wife of 16 years, Kristy, and a proud father to his four-year-old daughter, Eloise. His courage, love, and spirit will live on in her.
Even in his final days, David’s focus remained on his family, ensuring they felt his love, care, and protection. When asked how he stayed so positive throughout his illness, he would say, “Nobody called me up and asked if I wanted cancer, but what’s my other option? Sitting around feeling sorry for myself isn’t going to help.” His life leaves us a clear lesson: to meet every challenge with grace, to put love and kindness first, and to live fully in every moment. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire everyone who knew him.
The funeral will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myres, FL 33907. Interment will immediately follow at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myres, FL 33907.
