Donald Gary Lukacovic's Obituary
Donald Gary Lukacovic of Lehigh Acres, Florida passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side following a recent illness. He was 60 years old.Donald was born on February 20, 1954 in White Plains, New York, the proud son of Helen (Anderson) and Nicholas Lukacovic. He was married to the love of his life Rosemary (Dahlgren) and together they raised four wonderful children. Donald spent his entire career working in public safety throughout Lee County first as a Volunteer Firefighter with the Cape Coral Fire Department and subsequently as an Emergency Medical Technician for Lee County. He later transferred to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office where he was first employed as a Deputy at the beginning of his twenty year career before retirement as a Sergeant. He was well respected by his colleagues in law enforcement and well liked by the many people he aided over the years. He carried the motto of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office throughout his life as he was truly someone who was “Proud to Serve.”He leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife Rosemary, his children Heather Lukacovic, Robert Lukacovic, Nicole Henson (Dave) and Dawn Shemet (Arthur) of Interlachen, Florida; his grandchildren David Owens, Alexander Shemet; Cassy Henson and Nicole Archibald; his sisters Grace Maureen Firmes of Cape Coral and Gail Lukacovic of Austintown, Ohio. He also leaves behind a number of extended family, many friends and numerous fellow officers and staff from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office who will greatly miss his company. Sadly, he was preceded in death by his parents Nicholas and Helen and by his brothers Nicholas Jr., John and Robert.A Visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 PM on Saturday, December 20, 2014 in the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. A Memorial Service will thereafter be celebrated at 3:00 PM also in the Chapel. Donald’s urn will be placed in its final resting place at adjacent Memorial Gardens Cemetery in a separate graveside service that will take place at a later date.
