Emmette Phillip Waite Jr.'s Obituary
Emmette Phillip Waite, Jr., 85, a longtime Florida resident passed away peacefully on Friday, September 1, 2023 under the care of Hope Hospice. He was born November 12, 1937 in Jacksonville, FL to the late Emmette and Dorothy (nee Waters) Waite, Sr.
Emmette was a Civil Engineer and former Director of Public Works for the city of Ft. Myers. He was active in his church, serving as Deacon and Elder. His passions included his family, model trains, bocce' ball, ping pong, and Auburn football. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Janet Smith Waite.
Emmette is survived by his loving children, Julie Filer and her husband, Terry of Valley, WA, E. Phillip Waite, III and his wife, Suzanne of Irvine, KY and Susan Black of Washington; six grandchildren, Emory Dean, Amy Dean, Aaron Dean, Calvin Black, Christianna Black and Colin Black; as well as two great grandchildren, Alden Dean and Declan Schammerhorn.
A Memorial Service for both Emmette and his wife, Janet will be celebrated 2:30 PM, September 8, at the Village Church Chapel on the grounds of Shell Point Retirement Community, Fort Myers, FL.
Memorials may be given to North Fort Myers Presbyterian Church, any local food bank, or Hope Hospice.
