H. Peter deLisser's Obituary
On December 28, 2020 Peter deLisser peacefully departed his love filled life of 91 years. Peter was a devoted husband, a loving father of five, a cherished Grandfather to his twelve grandchildren and a Great Grandfather to four.
Peter was a proud resident of the Village of Piermont for over 40 years, while living in Piermont he could be found writing poetry on the pier, that would be made into a book he described as his love story to the Village, singing loudly in the St. John’s Church Choir and proudly walking in the Memorial Day parade as a veteran of the Korean war and a member of the Piermont VFW Post 7462.
Peter spent the last years of his life enjoying the warmth of Ft. Myers Florida but always remained a true New Yorker at his core, having been born in Brooklyn on June 8, 1929 to Horace and Loris deLisser, and raising his children and grandchildren to be enthusiastic Yankees fans.
Peter always provided for his family, from teaching tenth grade English, coaching college football at his alma mater Williams College, and Columbia University, to starting his own company which specialized in providing business executives with communication and listening skills and becoming an international author.
Peter authored three books and had many successful careers, but nothing brought him more joy or pride in his life than his family. He always made sure to show how much he loved them, through attending his grandchildren’s events, sending out daily poems, and making his famous Jamaican eggs for any special occasion. He taught his family the importance of a strong sense of faith, the morals of listening and helped them and others learn to “be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry” (James 1:19 NLT). Peter taught his family to enjoy the little things in life such as an excellent piece of chocolate cake, a hot cup of coffee and the simplest joy of taking in the nature around you. He was always happy to lend an ear to listen, a hand to help, and a smile to bring joy.
Peter is survived by the love of his life Carolyn, his wife of 62 years. He is survived by his children Elise deLisser, Douglas deLisser (Tammy), Susanne Krump (Phillip), David deLisser (Carol), Michael deLisser (Joy), his grandchildren Marcel deLisser, Danielle Turner (Weston), Kyle deLisser, Renee, Chelsea, & Rachele deLisser, Jesse & Amanda Krump, Emily Gray (Andrew), Cameron & Carson Grampsas, Macayla Gonino (Andy) and his great grandchildren Ella & Lucy Turner, Geneva Gonino and Athena Berson-deLisser.
In Peter’s own words “He is forever safe in the hands of the Good Shepherd.”
