Vern was one of my dads best friends. I moved to SWFL when I was 8 in 1995. Vern moved down here and I used to get to see him a lot. After my dad passed in 1999, Vern used to share a lot of memories and stories about my dad. He even had my dads Army hat (he was in the big red one) and made sure that I got it when I was in my early 20s. He reminded me a lot of my dad. He was like another father. I will miss him a lot. ❤️
We only met Vern once, in 2017, while on vacation in Florida. We were staying with a great friend of Donna's, and Donna and Vern invited us over for dinner one evening. We had such a great time and so much fun with Vern's motorbike antics and memories of the time he was stationed in Germany! I'll never forget the time he came in and he got to watch me race. I was in the lead and was about to win and then my tire blew out. I remember him smiling and telling me I was doing great and couldn't believe how fast my little Saturn was. Love you Papaw! You were the best!
