Henry de la Pena's Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Henry de la Pena at the age of 96. Henry passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on June 24th, 2015 in Pompano Beach, Florida.Henry was born and raised in Derby, Conn. then served our nation in the Navy during WW II in the Pacific on the battleship USS Nevada. Returning from the War he married Maria Swain and then In 1951 Henry built the iconic Nevada Motel on Long Sands beach bearing the name of the Ship on which he proudly served.Henry will be remembered as a generous caring person, a loving devoted father and husband. Henry leaves behind his brother Edward, his sister Violet Cable, three children, Jeanette Prues of Lighthouse Point, Fl., Paul of York Beach, Maine and Edward of Coral Springs, Fl., Many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Henry’s wife Maria and daughter Cecelia [ Penny ] preceded him in death.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, July 1st at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers Donations can be made in memory of Henry de la Pena to the Wounded Warriors or to a charity of your choice.
