Jeannie Martin's Obituary
Jeannie Martin, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, went to be with the Lord on December 21, 2024, at the age of 78. Born on May 16, 1946, in Peru, Indiana, Jeannie was the cherished daughter of Stephen and Helen Dobler and the younger sister of Steve and Rich Dobler.
A proud graduate of Peru High School, Jeannie pursued her passion for teaching at Purdue University. In April 1974, she married Craig Martin, embarking on a life filled with love, adventure, and a growing family. Together, they raised five children: Jim (Monica) Davidson, Jennifer (Todd) Beaufort, Brian (Janay) Martin, David (Melissa) Martin, and Kristin (Michael) Rinker.
Jeannie and Craig built their life together on the family farm in Deer Creek, Indiana, before moving to Clayton, North Carolina; Terre Haute, Indiana; Ames, Iowa; and finally, Fort Myers, Florida, in 2009.
Jeannie’s life was a testament to her passion for helping others. Early in her career, she worked as the Technology Coordinator at Carroll Elementary School, inspiring a love of learning in young minds. She also served as a mentor and leader in her community, dedicating her time to organizations such as 4-H, the Home Economics Club, MOPS, and the Fort Myers Women’s Club, where she served as Past President. Her contributions extended to roles as President of Florida Gulf Coast University's Town and Gown organization and as a Board Member of the Fort Myers Community Concert Association.
A woman of deep Christian faith, Jeannie was a devoted member of Fort Myers New Hope Presbyterian Church, serving as both an Elder and a Deacon. Her guidance, compassion, and leadership were gifts to her congregation and community.
Jeannie’s legacy will live on in the lives she touched through her unwavering kindness, passion for service, and enduring faith. She was the consummate hostess and loved to entertain. Her love for deep conversation accompanied by fine wine is well documented. Her family, friends, and community will forever cherish memories of her determination, compassion, and generous spirit.
A celebration of Jeannie’s life will be held at New Hope Presbyterian Church on January 10th (receiving line at 12:00 PM and a service at 1:00 PM). An additional celebration will take place in Indiana on June 29 (details forthcoming). In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Jeannie’s name to New Hope Presbyterian Church, 10051 Plantation Rd., Fort Myers, FL 33966.
Jeannie is survived by her loving husband, Craig; her five children: Jim, Jennifer, Brian, David, and Kristin; her brother, Rich Dobler; and her 12 grandchildren: Tyler “Tee” Martin, Ashton (Juan) Reveles, Lauryn Martin, Grayden Beaufort, Elle Davidson, Cortney Martin, Justice Martin, Jackson Beaufort, Jake Martin, Jacob Rinker, Owen Martin, and Joshua Rinker.
