Mem Ory
Kev, here, Big John’s “kid” brother. Reading all of the touching tributes to John are living testimony to the profound impact this accomplished, fascinating, and genuinely charismatic man had on all who knew him. Throughout my entire life beginning with my earliest memories until his passing, I have looked up to and respected John. Saying that he was my idol puts it damn plain.
He and I were the only remaining direct descendants of the Kays’ on our Dad’s, and Fields’, on our Mom’s sides of the family. Like only siblings can, we share history, that certain knowledge and awareness that gets passed along from your immediate and more distant ancestors. Having John there—the guy with whom I shared that history; knowledge; and the old (usually embellished) stories, antics, and foibles. All of it blended into the combined wisdom imparted to us by family. It rather feels like I am in one way alone--but not really. John’s formidable, loving presence will live on and on within me.
Along with Judy, his children, his scores and scores of friends, and business associates, his departure from this life leaves us with a deep, everlasting void.
Now please, everyone hoist one to Big John. “Let’s Go!”
Love, Kevin E. Kays Along with Audrey, Chris, Julia, & Clark
