Joseph “Joey” Charles Cibella Jr. passed away in the comfort of his home with his loving family by his side on Sunday, May 8, 2016 following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 13, 2002 in Lewiston, NY. The beloved son of Joseph and Stephanie (Santangelo) Cibella. Joey was 13 years old.Joey grew up in Fort Myers and Lehigh Acres Florida. Joey attended school at Veterans Park Academy for the Arts where he was in the 8th grade. He was an exceptional student who excelled in advanced classes. Joey also enjoyed attending religious education at St. John XXIII Catholic Church where he was a parishioner.Joey enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid football fan. His favorite team was the Buffalo Bills. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing and was a fan of Tony Stewart. One of Joey’s favorite things to do was build and collect LEGO sets. He also enjoyed playing Minecraft and soccer.Joey had a contagious smile, positive attitude, and showed such strength and bravery. He was thoughtful to others, kind, and caring. He enjoyed making people laugh with his sense of humor and incredible personality. Joey was an inspiration to all. He touched the lives of many and will continue to do so in memory.In addition to his loving parents, Joey is survived by his younger sister Gianna Cibella. Also survived by his Great Grandmother; Waneita (Shaw) Potter, Grandmothers; Giuseppa (Pirrera) Cibella, Carol (Potter) Santangelo (Terry Tong), Uncles and Aunts; Carmen (Carol) Cibella, Rosalia (Hank Williams) Morreale, Andreana (Robert) Chella, Arthur (Erica) Santangelo, Gregory (Jessica) Santangelo, cousins; Maria, Carmen, Julia, Matthew, Alissa, Amanda, Jacob, Aurora, Natalie, and Aubrey, and Best Friend; Ryder Mell. Joey was welcomed into heaven by his Great Grandfather; Fredrick Atkinson, Grandfathers; Calogero Cibella and Arthur Santangelo, and Uncle Calogero Morreale.The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and therapists for all the love and care shown to their son. Most especially Dr. Luis Rodriguez and Dr. Stacie Stapleton of All Children’s Hospital, Dr. Craig MacArthur, and Dr. Constantine Mantz. They would also like to thank The Ronald McDonald House, The Make a Wish Foundation, Hope Hospice, St. John XXIII Catholic Church, Father Bob Tabbert, Chris Biel and Trisha Fields, his teachers, staff, and friends at Veterans Park Academy for the Arts along with Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home & Cemetery.A memorial mass for Joey will be celebrated at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at St. John XXIII Catholic Church, 13060 Palomino Lane, Fort Myers, Florida 33912, (239) 561-2245. Visitation with the family will take place for two hours preceding this service beginning at 4:00 PM also at the Church. Following the conclusion of mass, guests are invited to remain for refreshments and a time of fellowship.
