Joseph "Joe" H Tansey's Obituary
Joe peacefully laid down his trophies while clinging to the old rugged cross on February 16, at the age of 94 with his wife Bernice and daughter Victoria by his side. He was born in Clinton, MA to John Henry Tansey & Anna (Lafountain)Tansey. His brother Gene lives in Weechi Wachee.
Brothers John, Ronnie & his sister Teresea predeceased him.
Joe grew up & then graduated as class president from Peterborough high school in Peterborough, NH. At which time he joined the air force to serve his country during the Korean war, He met and married Nancy Carabiniero (deceased) and then raised three daughters. He worked for Pratt & Whitney in CT, for a while when he was honorably discharged in 1954. His next challenge was to own a franchise in Cott beverage with his dad. Then they decided to build "Bowling Acres" in Peterborough, which was successful for over 40 years. Also adding a restaurant and mini mart for good measure. In 1977 he obeyed the gospel and was baptized into Christ.
He worshipped and was active in the Keene Church of Christ including being on the board of trustees for a home for unwed mothers. The same year he married Bernice (Michaud-Merrifield) and they moved to North Fort Myers, FL. Where he was part of the congregation and deacon for "the Sunshiners" & "widows ministry" At (Mcgregor) Church of Christ) Gulf Coast Church of Christ for many years, two card shops in FT, Myers and North Fort Myers were interesting to him, however "A-1 trophy" was in his sites. He enjoyed serving the people of the area for 20 years and was always willing to be in a leadership role, He was humbled, and so delighted to be part of honor flight m17 flying to Washington D.C. In 2018.
He was a member of the American legion, all local chambers of commerce, served as president of the New Hampshire Candlepin Bowling Association. Joe was always willing to serve in a leadership role wherever he was involved.
He was devoted to the church family and formed many close friendships (they know who they are ) his wife, family, country and community.
He leaves behind, in hopes of being reunited again through Christ, his wife of 46 years, two daughters, Christine (Carl) Jevne, Victoria Tanzi, two stepsons Michael Merrifield, Gary J. Merrifield (Shelly), 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, Rick Davis & Larry Kooi. He treasured his family and friends which includes many sisters and brothers in law, cousins, nephews & nieces, he was blessed with a devoted niece, Sue. Before he went to be with Jesus (by God's Grace) he moved to Bayshore village where he & Bernice were blessed to be surrounded with loving and caring friends.
There will be a Memorial Service held in Joe's honor Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 11AM located at Gulf Coast Church of Christ. 9550 6 Mile Cypress Pkwy, Fort Myers, FL 33966
