Joseph R. Metz's Obituary
J. Raymond Metz, 87, of North Fort Myers, FL passed peacefully at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral on May 15, 2023. Born at home to parents Betty and George Metz.
He joined the Army in 1956 serving 3 years with the 101st Airborne Division. He was employed at Yankee Metal Products while going to Bridgeport Engineering Institute at night. After graduation he joined NORCO Inc. in Georgetown, CT where he was employed for 40 years, retiring as Vice President of Engineering. He was Commander of Norwalk, CT Power Squad. He moved to North Fort Myers, FL in 2004 with his loving wife, Sandra of over 60 years. He so enjoyed all his hobbies; restoring cars, car shows, target shooting, golfing, square dancing, photography and travel. He served on Herons Glen Country Club’s security committee and art group. Ray was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; brothers, Henry Metz of Wells, ME and Donald Metz of Southbury, CT; one sister, Lily White of Lexington, SC; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and nephews.
A Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 24, 2023 from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, FL. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 , Thursday, May 25, 2023 at St. Therese Catholic Church, 20115 N. Tamiami Trail, North Fort Myers, FL 33903. Entombment will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in the Field of Honor where the United States Army will present Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, Hope Hospice (Cape Coral, FL), the Wounded Warriors or to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in loving memory of J. Raymond Metz.
