Joseph Peter Slabosz, Jr., 78, of Fort Myers, died February 8, 2016 at Hope Hospice at Health Park in Fort Myers, FL.Memorial services will be announced at a later date.Memorials: Hope Hospice.Joseph was born January 23, 1938 in Chicago, IL to Joseph Peter Slabosz, Sr. and Genevieve Maslowski. He married Dorothy Joyce Mirtich on October 15, 1960 in Berwyn, IL.Joe had a passion for building. In his earlier years he worked as a tool and die maker for Argonne National Laboratories. On the side, he was a homebuilder, and built all of the homes that his family lived in. In 1995, he continued his passion for woodworking by co-founding Florida Wood Creations with his son in Fort Myers, FL.In 1981, Joe moved his family from Illinois to Cape Coral, FL to enjoy the mild winters and the Gulf waters. Joseph and his wife were members of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Fort Myers. They enjoyed traveling across country in their RV, and would often invite their grandkids along. He enjoyed boating and skeet shooting, but what he loved most was spending time with his family.Surviving are his wife, Dorothy, four children, Cindy Rice and her husband Bill of Antioch, IL, Dave Slabosz and his wife Heather of Fort Myers, FL, Beth Wortkotter and her husband Steve of Marietta, GA, Janet Griggs and her husband Jack of Fort Myers, FL; sister, Arlene Cavallone of Las Vegas, NV; and grandchildren, Derek, Brittany, Brandon, Frances, Bridget, Parker and Dawson.The Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Joseph.Condolences may be left to the family at www.fortmyersmemorial.com.
