Kevin Lee Gaines' Obituary
Kevin Lee Gaines, 66, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away peacefully in his home on July 8, 2023 following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was a wonderful and caring son, brother, husband, father, coach, teacher, and friend. Kevin was born on June 15, 1957 in Orrick, Missouri to Clifton and Eva Mae Gaines.
Kevin will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Gaines, and their children, Shaun Gaines and his wife Leslie, Jesse Gaines and his wife Nozomi, Annalisa Gaines, and Kristin Shrauger and her husband Kacey. Kevin is also survived by his brothers, Harold and Brad Gaines, and sisters Martha Bompezzi and Barb Newkirk, along with six adored grandchildren, Maddox Gaines, Tyler Gaines, Owen Gaines, Penelope Gaines, Elly Newman and Grace Smith. Kevin was preceded in death by his parents.
Kevin dedicated his life to helping others. He served as a teacher and coach at various schools throughout his career, including Bishop Verot High School in Fort Myers, Florida, Port Charlotte High School in Port Charlotte, Florida, St. Thomas High School in Houston, Texas, O'Connell Prep School in Galveston, Texas, and Rio Hondo High School in Rio Hondo, Texas.
Outside of his professional life, Kevin had a deep passion for sports. He was a devoted fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. Kevin loved playing golf and tennis with his friends and family. He also loved spending summers in Vermont where he found much solace and joy. He was a longtime member of Saint Hilary’s Church, where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at 11:00 am.
