Lawrence Peter Povia's Obituary
Lawrence “Larry” Peter Povia of North Fort Myers, Florida passed away on March 24, 2017 at Cape Coral Hospital. Larry was born February 9, 1936 in Yonkers, New York to the late Joseph Povia and Muriel Gaut. After graduating from Fort Myers High School in 1953, he attended the University of Florida and University of Hawaii in Honolulu. Upon returning to Fort Myers, he carried on the Povia tradition of entrepreneurship and joined Tropix Terrazzo before co-founding Povia-Ballantine Corporation. Povia-Ballantine served the community of Lee County in developing single family dwellings, condominiums, golf communities and constructed the Page Field terminal expansion which introduced a new era of airline transportation to Lee County in the mid and late 1970s. Larry is survived by his former wife, Sally; his son, Terry and grandchildren; his nieces & nephews, Sabrina Kelly Bennett, Sara Hartford, Cindi, Mike and Mark Morris; his cousins, Arlene Miley, Jimmy and Christine Povia along with many other loving family members and friends. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday April 4, 2017 in the chapel of Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial BLVD, Fort Myers, FL.
