Lena Berube Levasseur's Obituary
Lena Berube Levasseur passed away June 23rd at the age of 84 at Gulf Coast Memorial Hospital after a brief illness, surrounded by her children. She was born in Van Buren, Maine, on April 7, 1939, the daughter of Helen and Wilfred Berube.
Lena graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Van Buren, ME and received a liberal arts degree from Trinity College in Burlington, VT. She was a teacher of business education and French for some time prior to meeting and marrying her first husband and father of her children, Gerald N. Levasseur. After she was widowed from Gerry in 1981, she went to work for the IRS for the next 25 years, in Maine, TN and FL. She found love again with Norman Spellman and enjoyed living half time in Florida and half time in Maine with him before he passed away. She will be fondly remembered for her fierce independence, love of her gardens and love , pride and devotion for her children, grandchildren and dogs. It was always her wish to remain in Florida for her remaining life and to that end she achieved her goal. She will also be remembered for her creative eye and skill in ceramics and her flawless command of the French language in helping her children with their homework. She had a gentle manner and warm heart. Still, she was a merciless and avid Scrabble competitor and never missed the New York Times crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her three children, Michael Levasseur and Andrea Hill from Littleton, MA. Dr. Lynn Marshall and husband, Rich, from New London, NH. Dr. Dana Levasseur and wife Kelly from Vestavia Hills, AL. Four grandchildren, Cameron Webster, Emilie Webster, Brianna Levasseur and Benjamin Levasseur. She is predeceased by her mother Helen and father Wilfred and brothers Bertram Berube and Rod Berube, and sisters Winnifred Whalen and Sylvia Rainier. Her siblings Lorraine Redwine of St David, ME, Verne Berube of Orlando, FL and Marilyn Chasse of Madawaska, ME remain. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at St. Remi-St. Bruno Church in Van Buren, Maine, at 10 AM on Monday, August 7. Donations in her memory to Dementia research would be most kind.
