Lyle James "Jim" Sobel's Obituary
Jim Sobel, 73, of Cape Coral, Florida, passed away June 30th. Jim grew up in Patchogue, NY and married his classmate and love of his life, Shirley (Felice) Sobel. They recently celebrated their 54th Anniversary. Jim received a B.S. degree in Hotel and Restaurant Administration from Cornell University, and spent his work-life advancing the free enterprise system in various business operations, management, and ownership. He co-founded Relyco Sales Inc. in 1989, and retired from it, moving to Cape Coral in 1998.The pinnacle of Jim’s life and passions was his immediate family, whom he loved so dearly and with great pride. Besides his wife, Shirley, he leaves behind: sister Nina; daughter, Jamie (Roy) Ryals, son, Randy (Laura) Sobel, and daughter, Jill (Paul) Young; grandchildren: Jessica, Jacob, Amanda, Ben, Derek, Adin, Rebecca, Josh, Kyle, Brayden; and great-grandchild, Emma. He was very apprecative of the lifetime relatives, friends, and acquaintances he gained along his journey.Jim’s early mantra was, “Every Day: a new adventure and a new aggravation.” Despite many obstacles during his life, he always managed to overcome and appreciate each new day, and the wonders and beauty of nature. He had an intense curiosity and many passions, some of which were: collector cars, N.E. sports teams, music, conservatism, karaoke, art, and much more. When he retired, he became a sculptor, winning many awards in SWF exhibits, especially with stone, wood, and mixed-media sculptures. He will be missed dearly by all who were blessed to have known him.Jim requested that any donations be made to the Cancer Center at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
