Maurice "Al" Alwyn Sween's Obituary
Maurice Alwyn “Al” Sween, 82, a resident of Cape Coral, Florida, former resident of Deadwood (Nemo), South Dakota, and Mankato, Minnesota, joined the Lord on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. He was born on June 22, 1939 in Cochocton, Ohio to the late Maurice A. and Nina (née Cleberg) Sween.
Al was a very successful businessman man owning a pharmaceutical manufacturing company, Sween Corporation, which he started in his Mankato home. Al grew that business to where it’s products spanned the United States and internationally. Al retired in 1999 and would spend his summers at his ranch in South Dakota. and winters on the waterfront in Florida. Al enjoyed the outdoors, riding motorcycles and traveling. He was an avid reader and loved owning and flying airplanes. Al was “one of a kind.” He was good to all who knew him and always put others first. Al was an extremely loving husband and we will all miss him terribly. Al is now with God and the angels in Heaven, looking down on us with his warm smile. He is now at peace.
Al was preceded in death by his older brother, Jim Sween (Sandy). Al is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Kathryn (née Van Waus) Sween of Cape Coral, Florida; four children, Rev. Dr. Maurice Alwyn Sween, III (Dr. Lan-Shiang Wu) of Pingtung, Taiwan, Michelle Schock (Dennis) of St. Peter, Minnesota, Daniel Markovich (Katie) of Cape Coral, Florida and Paul Markovich (Zulayka) of Cape Coral, Florida; his extended family also includes: Laurie Sorenson (Joe), Merrali Benson, Coralie Janssen Sween (Emily), Natalie Berger, Bradley Sween (Molly) and Bradley's children: Madeline and Abby; one brother, Adrian Sween (Sue) of South Dakota; five adored grandchildren, Elizabeth Schock, Charlie Sween, Elijah Markovich, Abigail Markovich and Grayson Markovich; as well as many extended family members and friends.
A memorial service will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, Florida.
