Maxim Herbach's Obituary
Max Herbach, 70, of Lehigh Acres, Florida died October 16, 2010 of cancer. He was born January 28, 1940, in Antwerp, Belgium to Jacques and Yvonne Herbach. He and his family fled the Nazi invasion, settling in Brazil for the duration of the war. They returned to Antwerp in 1946 and lived there until 1951, when they moved back to Brazil. Max came to the United States in 1958. He graduated from City College of New York and received his Masters’ degree in Comparative Literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He taught at Madison as well as the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and the University of Wisconsin-Stout. He went on to host a weekly public affairs program on public TV called “Spectrum 28” in Menomonie, Wisconsin. In 1986, he moved to Duluth, Minnesota to host another PBS program, “Venture North”. In 1988, he began working at Minnesota Power (Allete) and retired from there in 2002 as Manager of Corporate Communications. Max is survived by his wife of 32 years, Susan (Berg), his sons, Geoffrey and Jonathan (Petra Eweg), 2 grandchildren, Leo and Mira, his brother, Denis and his sister, Yolande Zahler (Steve), his mother-in-law, Eileen Berg, many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 21 at 10:00 AM at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida with burial to follow in Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery. A lunch will follow at 1:00 at Westminster Golf Club, 2199 Berkley Way, Lehigh Acres, Florida.
