Captain Paul M. Phillips, 58, of Fort Myers, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2015. He was born February 15, 1957 in Alexandria, VA to Douglas and Sue (Paskel) Phillips and moved to Fort Myers in 1988. He was the Captain and Train Read Obituary
Paul was a great cousin. I am thankful for all the fond memories I have of the two of us and our other cousins when we were kids down at Nanni and Paps house. Plenty of fun and a little mischief, from tree climbing to swimming to football, you could always count on having a good time with Paul. Rest in peace dear cousin, heaven has another angel to watch over all of us.
Though it was a long time ago when we were kids I can still remember many fun filled moments I had with my cousin Paul. Swimming, tree climbing, playing catch football or baseball, walking up to our grandfathers gas station and the 7-Eleven next door, all fond memories. Back in '76 my parents, brother and I visited Paul when he was first settling in to living in Fort Myers, he was the manager of a Western Sizzling' steak house, and he invited us to stop by for dinner so we could spend time together. It was then he had mentioned to my mom he had met Linda and he said she might be the "one". I still remember his decked out Ford van, fully carpeted, table, bed and fridge, and a bumping stereo!Thank you for all the wonderful memories and the special times together growing up, we love and will miss you Paul.

Paul and I were in Recruit School together in 1983 in Fairfax County, VA. I got to know him pretty well as we became lunch partners. What I remember most about Paul was how dedicated he was to his wife and family. We were just learning about firefighting but it didn't take long to see that same dedication to the fire service as well. We didn't stay in touch when he moved to Florida but we ran into each other in ATL at the airport two years ago. We got a chance to chat for about 10 minutes and I was amazed at how much he remembered about the old days! Condolences to the entire Phillips family. Paul will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace. My heart is broken. Not just for me but especially for Linda and the family. Paul and Linda are the hub of the family wagon wheel. I have lost my cousin, my dearest friend, my brother. I will miss Paul for the rest of my days. Paul, I asked Dad to meet you at the Gate to show you the ropes. I miss you. I love you. Peace be with You.Darrell
From the first time I met Paul, I instantly liked him; his initial quiet demeanor was so sweet. He was in our wedding in 1983 and over the years, he and Darrell have remained close. Our entire family extends our love and deep sympathy to Linda, Derek, Nathan, Jaycee and all of the grandchildren Paul loved so much. You guys were everything to him. Paul was also passionate and dedicated to the Fire Dept. and being in nature. God will help you all get through this horrific loss but we certainly cannot begin to understand it. Paul was a wonderful family man and firefighter. He started his career with me at FS26 in Fairfax County , Va. He was a great team member and friend. It would take hours to share all the stories I have about Paul. God must have a need in Heaven for Paul because he sure did a great job while here on earth. We will miss him. I send our sympathies for Linda and the kids. As God said,Well done my good and faithful servant.
