Dearest Family and Friends of Doug Hovenden, This recollection was one of many shared by Karen and me over the years. A number of years ago, Kathie’s Mother’s health was failing. Kathie and Doug shared their comfortable home to insure her care was the very best. Karen and I had the good fortune to spend several days of hugs, smiles, laughs. memories, and passionate tears with Doug, Kathie, and Auntie Elinor. Karen and I were taken by Doug’s attentiveness to Elinor’s every need including bedpan duty, laundry, helping her move about ‘the cabin’ with each gentle stride, he fed her with the patience of Jobe even though there were some chicken noodles that mised her mouth just a bit. That evening, Elinor was so excited about enjoying dinner at Todd’s Biaggi’s. Kathie and Karen spared not a minute making her a knockout beauty as she always has been! Doug wisked her away into the van. Carefully helping her into the seat just right. On to the most special restaurant in the city. Doug made certain that Todd greeted Grandma at the door. On to her very favorite table. As she was seated, Doug held her hand to insure she was comfortable. He kissed her on the cheek and told her that she was a knockout. After her order was placed, she told Doug she was feeling faint. Doug jumped to his feet, motioned for Todd to help move her into the van. Doug insisted we finish our wonderful meal. Doug took Elinor back home , placed her in night clothes and into bed. This is just ONE example of the kind of man young men would forever emulate. Doug…God’s speed.
