Rebecca N. Hemelgarn's Obituary
Rebecca N. Hemelgarn, age 93, of Fort Myers Beach, passed away Friday, August 4, 2017. She was born January 7, 1924 in Waynesboro, Georgia and moved to Fort Myers in the ’40’s. She was the second oldest child of seven children in the Condurelis family. She began her working career as a waitress for her father’s restaurant, The Crystal Cafe in Fort Myers, Florida. She later worked for the government as a meteorologist during World War II. She was a restaurateur and land developer in the 60’s and 70’s. Rebecca and her late husband, Frank Hemelgarn, owned and operated Tip Top Isles Development, The Tahitian Motel and Times Square Restaurant, as well as many other businesses in the Fort Myers Beach area. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Alva. Rebecca lived a life nourishing others with love, faith and generosity. She touched the life of many with a kind word and was always willing to pray with those around her. She will be deeply missed by her friends and family. She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Brown (Doug), her sister Frankie Lee Lewis, two half sisters, Helen Christoff (Wendell) and Marie Trammell (Doug) and a half brother, Jimmy Counderelis. Her devoted grandson , Robert Williams (Mary Jane) and her great-grandchildren, Jesse Andrew, Alexander, Brooke, Noah, Seth, Rebecca-Kay “Scout” and Carter. A Memorial Service for Rebecca will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 inside the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. Guests will be received for one hour preceding this ceremony beginning at 9:00 AM also in the chapel. At the conclusion of the service, family and friends will recess to adjacent Memorial Gardens Cemetery where Rebecca will laid to rest at the Masonic Garden.
