Renate L. Schotsch's Obituary
Renate L. Schotsch, 93, a resident of Cape Coral, FL passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, January 1, 2024. She was born January 1, 1931 in Desboro, Ontario, Canada to the late Walter and Edith (nee Schwartz) Rothenberg.
The Rothenberg Family moved to Tillsonburg, Ontario, Canada where Renate met and married her late husband, John Schotsch in 1950. She spent her working career as a legal secretary in Canada. In 1955, Renate and John immigrated to the US and moved to Niagra Falls, NY obtaining dual citizenship. They traveled all over the world from coast to coast and abroad. Renate and John went between their home in Tillsonburg, Ontario, Canada and Bonita Springs/Estero, FL for 15 years before becoming full time Florida residents in 1998. They had a passion for dancing and became known as the “Dancing Duo” during their time at Gulf Coast Village. Renate loved playing scrabble, working on puzzles, reading, crocheting, knitting and quilting.
Two of her biggest blessings were becoming the first organist at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Tillsonburg, Ontario, Canada at the age of 17 and being one of the founding members at Hope Lutheran Church in Bonita Springs, FL.
Renate is survived by her two loving children, Rick Schotsch and Janet Kenyon and her husband, Wolcott (Blu); two sisters, one brother, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
A Funeral Service will be celebrated 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 706 SW 6th Avenue, Cape Coral, FL. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 10:00 AM until the service time at 11:00 AM at the church. Following the services Renate will be laid to rest by her husband in the Meditation Garden of Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Fort Myers, FL.
