ROBERT H. BUKER, M.D.'s Obituary
Robert H. Buker, M.D., of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away Monday, September 25, 2017 in the care of Hope Hospice at Shellpoint. He was 88. Dr. Buker was born December 6, 1928 in Kentung, Myanmar (Burma); the son of the late Richard S. and Minola Buker.The son of medical missionaries, Dr. Buker was a proud graduate of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City, New York. He earned his Board Certification in Thoracic and General Surgery and served as a medical missionary in Pakistan prior to his career in the military.Dr. Buker was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam era and ultimately retired with the rank of Major General (2-star). During his military career, he earned numerous medals and ribbons for meritorious service including the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Army Commendation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was also recognized for his medical service as a recipient of the Flight Surgeon Badge and Physician Proficiency Badge (Silver).In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Buker. He is survived by his loving wife of 68+ years, Ethel Hunt Buker and their children, Robert H. Buker, Jr., Traci Holsteen and Nina Aten. He is also survived by his brother Richard Buker, Jr. He was the loving grandfather of eight gran Dr. Buker is surviveddchildren, Robert Buker III, Richard Buker III, Heather Branaman, Channon Howell, Joel Holsteen, Vicki Dydek, Gregory Loer and Thomas Aten, Jr. He also leaves behind ten loving great grandchildren.Memorial services are planned for 11:15am, Saturday, September 30, 2017 in the Village Church at Shellpoint 15100 Shell Point Boulevard, Fort Myers, FL 33908.
