I still tell people stories about working for Ivan and Ruth as a kid on their farm on s.r.31. Once Ruth yelled to Ivan that the bull was in the garden again and Ivan shot him in the butt with a 410 and said, That just bounces off him but scares the $hit out of him. We would sit down for lunch and everything on the table was from the farm. You didn't get a lot of something but a little bit of everything from the 20 plus items on the table! Ruth showed me how to milk the goats and cows and to collect the chicken eggs. Ivan showed me how to drive the tractor and load the smoker which was always loaded with a varity of meats. I still live in the Shores and think of the great times I had working on the farm and fishing in the lake, which was a privledge because Ivan didn't let just anyone fish in it and he always claimed there was a world record bass in it, every time I go past the gates. It was a honor to work for some of the best Lee County Pioneers! My condolences to you the Mccumber family. Great memories will always be shared by me about two of the best down home people you could ever meet!
