I didn’t my Uncle Sal, as he was known to me, very well. But the memories and pictures I do have tell me all the things i need know. I see a small image of myself as a man, in him in one my favorite pictures of him holding me as a small child. As if reality fractured for a second and you can see something time and space are suspossed to hide from our prying eyes. But one thing I not only see but feel everytime I look at that picture is that this man is whole. This man is of pure heart. Instead wrecking his mind and heart over trying wreckless to untieing the figurative Gordian knot inside us all, he, like Alexander simply took a swipe with his sword with a true heart and all chatter of the mind turned to silence and he became pure of heart. As a male, in the density of the world he did what was needed and in death shall surely enter higher planterary life. And laws of suffering will now be halved. He filled the hole that I am trying to fill in myself. For his sake, OM, Amen.
Our family absolutely loved Sal! We first met him at Publix where he was a constant fixture. My kids would run over to him and give him a bear hug from behind. We even had him over to dinner one Christmas and he arrived with a huge smile, a dessert in hand and gifts for my three children. We sent a Christmas card to him the other day and it was returned. This is how I came upon this page. My heart is broken…. I am so deeply sorry for your loss! What a great man!Love, The Yeagle Family

Uncle Sal and my dad spoke on the phone every night at 6 no matter what. Even if they had just seen each other. I loved hearing their friendship and brotherhood through my dads stories. He held a special place in my moms heart too. She made Xmas fruit cake just for him! He was the only one that liked it. She would make extra so he could freeze it. I remember staying with him and Ronnie at their condo when I was little. I thought they were so cool living in that modern condo! He was a good man, he was loved, and will be missed.
Sal and I joined the NHPD in 1954.worked together and spent many hours doing Corner Duty..Franklin and Grand.. Good times..Good Friends..Rest in Peace Retired New Haven Police Chief Bill FarrellI
My Brother Sal, Sonny to me,God saw him getting tiredand a cure was not to beSo He put his arms around himand whispered "Come to Me."With tearful eyes we watched him suffer, and saw him slowly fade away.Although we loved him dearlywe could not make him stay.A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands put to rest,God broke our hearts to prove to us,He only takes the best.
We have frequently talked with Sal over the years shopping at Publix and will miss those exchanges. Sal was always thoughtful, pleasant and caring.Rest In Peace Sal.
I have know Sal since I was a rookie cop in 1972 and worked under Sgt. Listro for 9 years. After I retired I also moved to Ft. Myers where we re-established our relationship.Sal was always fair but tough when us rookies stepped out of line. Sal was soft spoken but could throw a mean punch when he worked at the bag. Sal will be missed by all who knew him. Rest in Peace.John Dattilo NHPD, Ret.
Sal was my brother-in-law and a great friend. I, too, worked with him on the New Haven Police Department. He was a very instrumental person in the success I had at the NHPD. More importantly, he was one of the nicest guys I ever met. He loved his family, cared about his friends, and was always there when you needed him. Luv ya, Sal, and if the Red Sox can't win the world Series, I'll be rooting for the Mets!!!Your favorite brother-inlaw, sorry Fred..Vaughn
