Sarah "Sally" L. Gelfer's Obituary
Sarah L. Gelfer of Jamaica Bay, Fort Myers, Florida, better known simply as "Sally" to her family and friends, passed away suddenly but peacefully on Sunday, December 15, 2019 following some recent health challenges. She was 77 years old.
Sally was a devoted Christian and amazing person. She was born in Chicago, Illinois to the late Frances M. (Matthews) and Burton C Lane. She was a graduate of Proviso West High School, Class of 1962 and was also a Graduate of Judson University, Class of 1967. Sally retired from Orkin after over 30 years of service. She enjoyed attending church and was a member of Relevance Community Church in Fort Myers, FL. Sally cherished her family and friends and will be remembered for the love, kindness and compassion she so easily shared.
Sally was preceded in death by Leo Gelfer, her husband of 42 years. Left behind to cherish her memory are many friends and loved ones including her step-daughter Jennifer Page (Hiram Page); step-grandson Justin Page; Aunt Clarice Turney (Maurice Turney) of Tahlequah, OK; cousins Mary Lee Brians of Tulsa, OK, V.A. McNabb Jr of Tulsa, OK; 2nd Cousins Charlie, Renee and Glenn Jr, Charles A Lane of Reno, NV and Margie Lane of Boise, ID. Close friends Bridgett Vick, Vicky Kennedy, Jenna Richardson, Marion Good, Joan Carle and many others who were her dearest and closest friends. Sally had a heart of gold and was known for sending cards to family and friends on a continuous basis to celebrate joy or mourn with others when needed. All who knew and loved her will miss her deeply.
A Funeral Service for Sally will be celebrated by Pastor Jeffrey DeLeon of Relevance Community Church at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 21, 2019 inside the Chapel at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33907, (239) 936-0555. Friends will be received for Visitation for an hour preceding this ceremony beginning at 10:00 AM also inside the funeral home chapel. At the conclusion of these ceremonies, guests will recess to adjacent Memorial Gardens Cemetery where Sarah will be laid to rest alongside her dearly departed husband Leo in the Mausoleum located at the Garden of Peace.
In lieu of flowers, the family instead suggests a donation in her memory be forwarded to Samaritan's Purse, an evangelical Christian humanitarian aid organization that provides aid to people in physical need as a key part of Christian missionary work.
